History of Bar Stools The Basics

When you understand the history of bar stools, you will see how they have had an impact in the bar and restaurant business over the years and how they continue to play an important role. Bar stools began out of necessity and no one really knows who first invented them.

We can only speculate that they are evolved forms of wooden chairs used in the past. The wooden stools of the past were basically simple wood models with three wooden legs. They were the most basic of models used to provide a person with a place to sit.

Often they were not part of a table setting so they would be pulled up to an extra table or a bar which is how they are believed to have gotten the nickname, "barstools".

While the original bar stools were very simple pieces of necessary furniture, it probably wasn't expected that they would evolve to the popularity that they have today. In the 50s and 60s especially, these tall chairs really took off and could be found in nearly every bar or restaurant around.

This is when they really began to change shape and be found in different sizes, colors, materials and styles. They would only continue to grow from there.

You can also find bar stools in a variety of sizes and heights. You will find out that the height is one of the most important aspects of the bar stool. This is why it's very important for you to measure the table, bar, or countertop properly so you can get the perfect stool.

Bar stools have changed and evolved a lot since their early days. They are now available to suit most any needs or style. This has come about over time as people adapted them to fit different types of needs and situations.

Many people can remember using barstools in our childhood days. You may have sat at the breakfast bar preparing for the day ahead. We may also have experienced bar stools in the local ice cream parlor or even in the barber shop. These fond memories show us how much the bar stool has evolved over time.

The history of the bar stool shows us that they can fit in most any room of the house and even in the business place. Bar stools are functional and fun and have become part of an American culture.

These stools in commercial settings will often be swivel or floor mounted but those used in personal settings are typically not mounted. This has also changed throughout history however and it is acceptable to have any type you want that goes with your theme and dcor.

In the past, bar stools were made of mostly wood but now metal and wood bar stools are very common. Aluminum is a good choice of material for bar stools that can last indoors or out. As the years go by, we expect that the history of bar stools will continue to grow and evolve.

Help! My Child is a Picky Eater

Help! My Child is a Picky Eater

Do the following statements sound familiar to you? As a loving parent it is natural to get caught up in a whole mix of feelings when your child is not eating well. Firstly you may feel worried that your child is not getting enough nutrition for his growth and development.

You may feel discouraged as you tried so hard but got so little response from your sweet one. You may even get angry with him for not appreciating your efforts to create wholesome and nutritious meals. All these feelings, if not kept in check, can aggravate the situation. So, let us find out why a child is a fussy eater.

There are many reasons why a child refuses food. The causes may be medical in nature if a child was born premature and had problems sucking and swallowing at birth. However that only affects a small percentage of fussy eaters. The majority are going through 'food fads' or 'food refusal' stages, which may be rather a way of asserting independence as the child grows up. Alternatively food refusal may be a form of manipulative behavior displayed by a child as a way of getting attention from his parents or caregiver. What is important is to understand that food refusal is a phase which will pass with time. Here are ways to deal with it:

My child refuses milk

First, try to flavor milk or milkshakes as children often prefer these alternatives to milk. If this tactic does not work, try dairy food such as cheese, ice-cream and yogurt. If your child still refuses to drink milk then check them for food allergies. Maybe your baby is allergic to milk products and that is why refuses it.

My 4 years old daughter refuses to eat meat

Meat can be disguised in less recognizable forms such as chicken nuggets, fish fingers, fish balls, fish cakes and minced meat which may be more acceptable to children. Remember to finely cut the meat for easy chewing.

My child refuses green vegetables

Vegetables may smell stronger if overcooked, especially green leafy ones, so make it a point to cook it right. Try peas, corn, carrots, and potatoes instead. Mix different green vegetables with starch vegetables together.

The trick with fussy eaters is to let them try different kinds of foods and to make eating less stressful. Remember, that average weight gain for a child is 6.5 kg every year after that. As long as your child is active, with boundless energy and growing well, there is no need to be overly concerned.

10 commandments of dealing with a fussy eater

1. A fussy eater will not starve. If he does not eat enough food today, he will balance his intake over the next few days.

2. Never, never, never force feed a child as it does not work. Always use gentle encouragement instead. Try again at the next mealtime.

3. Be realistic at the amount of food he can eat in one time. Start with small portions and refill his plate on request.

4. Children tend to be 'grazers'. Small frequent snacks may be the way to go rather than 3 main meals a day. Choose healthy snacks like bread, plain biscuits, cheese, fruits or a hard-boiled egg in between meals.

5. Vary the texture; add garnishing to stir interest in your child.

6. Children like to feel important and 'grown-up' by participating in food selection and preparation. They enjoy the experience of choosing the type of food and amount to eat. Seek their opinion rather than just serve food to them.

7. Encourage self-feeding, frightening as it may sound, conjuring up images of spillage and breaking crockery! Children like to feel part of the meal process. Use only plastic ware.

8. Always use simple cooking methods so that you will not wind up feeling frustrated at you child for not appreciating your time spent in the kitchen to create his meals.

9. Limit meal time to 20 minutes. Remove his food from the table after that and do not show signs of anger or offer milk or potato chips immediately.

10. Ensure your child has interaction with other children such as at play school so that with time and pressure from his peers, your child will eventually adopt good eating habits.

There is a common myth prevailing in many of us i.e. glass is better than plastics. However, this is not at all true. Glass products whether it is a container or any other thing it has same effects as the plastics. It is capable of causing the same damage to the environment as done by plastics.

Since human beings are in constant need of these products, we all have come up with recycling of these products. Now, instead of just abandoning a plastic or glass, we all tend to reuse it again and again to cater our own needs and at the same time preventing to from damaging the environment.

Although, it is quite difficult to tell exactly which types of containers are better for mankind but still, mentioned below is a concise detail about each of the product which will help you to take better decisions.

What is Glass Containers?

Glass containers are something which we all are required to use on regular basis. It, in fact, is used for storing food and beverages in most parts of the world. Mentioned below are the pros and cons related to the use of a glass product.

Advantages of Glass Bottles

There are in general three basic advantages of using a glass container which is mentioned below:

Furniture Bar Stools Are Very Trendy

Furniture Bar Stools Are Very Trendy

Furniture bar stools these days come in all sizes, colors, decorating styles and shapes. Before you go out and buy a set of stools, there are a few things you need to mull over. The first thing to mull over is the interior decoration of the area you're planning to add them to. A down home style room would work well with natural woods and lines. If they're going to be used at a kitchen or cellar bar, you may think over the swivel units over the fixed ones.

Foldable Bar Stools: One thing to look at when buying furniture bar stools is there main intention. If they are only going to be used on particular social functions, perhaps collapsable bar stools would be more appropriate. You're not restricted with selections, either. Today's units are very fashionable, and come in wood, metal-looking or even pvc plastic. They are outstanding for get togethers or having the gang over for a ball game. As soon as everyone has left, they can be folded up and put away until needed again.

Oak Bar Stools: When talking about furniture bar stools, the conversation will commonly lead to oak bar stools. In all likelihood no other tree has been utilized more to create premium furniture than the oak tree. Besides being exceedingly strong, it has to be one of the most stunning textures of wood known. Top manufacturers take pride in crafting oak bar stools. These stools fit in just about any type of area so you don't have to do any unnecessary redecorating to find something to match.

Adjustable Bar Stools: While most furniture bar stools come in 24 inch and 36 inch models, there are many adjustable stools, also. For apparent reasons, the elderly or the parents of young kids may prefer the flexibility that comes with being able to set the height of the stool. Not only is it practical, it is also a lot safer than having to climb up on a chair that is not the exact height for you. These are perfect, and they come in numerous styles so you won't have to concern yourself about a limited selection.

White Bar Stools: Yes, when looking for furniture bar stools, you have to look at the white bar stools. There is something about the color, or shade, of white that just draws attention to it. Everything matches with it, so you can't go amiss with choosing white. Naturally, the greatest drawback is keeping it pristine. You have to be extra protective, so if you have small tykes, this might not be the type of bar stool you'd want. But, at the same time, they do come in plastic, which is a lot easier to maintain than vinyl.

Red Bar Stools: While white is in all probability the most favorite color of furniture bar stools, nothing illuminates a room like red bar stools. It is a color that has to be selected cautiously, though. There are so many unique tones of red that not every room can be decorated with them. Red doesn't match well with some colors, so keep that in mind when you're considering purchasing them. They do have the advantage of being able to be kept cleaner than the white ones, though.

Five Most Popular Home Improvements

Five Most Popular Home Improvements

A recent survey conducted by the Halifax building society found that around 58% of Britons have been buys with home improvements over the last year with the 18-34 year old bracket leading the way with a conscientious 68% actively engaged in DIY home improvements over the last year.

Naturally aesthetics are not the only thing on these DIY enthusiasts minds. These people hope that their home improvements will make their homes more easily sellable and sellable for a greater profit. The bottom line is that the works are generally anticipated to net an additional 5000 pounds on the resale value of the owners' homes. According to Halifax's annual Home Improvement Survey, the five most popular home improvements are:

* Re-decorating - 66%
* Garden improvements - 41%
* New furnishings - 30%
* Laminate or wood flooring - 25%
* New bathroom - 24%

So, how would you go about paying for these home improvements? Here are three options for you to consider:

1) Use cash or savings

As a reformed debt addict, this would certainly be my first choice. What's more, it's likely to be the cheapest option, since all you stand to lose is the interest on the money you put to one side or withdraw from your savings account. However, if you can't afford to fund your home improvements from your regular income, and you don't have an emergency fund or nest egg to fall back on, then your next option might be to...

2) Get an unsecured personal loan

These are known as 'unsecured' personal loans because they are not secured on your property. In other words, if you don't keep up the monthly repayments, you aren't likely to lose your home (although it is possible). Alas, choosing a personal loan is far from simple, as there are hundreds of different loans from which to choose. If you want to borrow from 1,000 pounds to 25,000 pounds without putting your home on the line, then don't move a muscle until you've read my twelve tips in The Loan Arranger Rides Again.

3) Borrow against your home

If you're planning some major work on your home, such as an extension, loft conversion, new kitchen or bathroom, then you'll probably need to borrow more and over a longer period. In this situation, you may decide that a secured loan is your best option. Although secured loans have their critics (and I'm one of the most vocal!), they do enable sensible homeowners to borrow cheaply against their properties.

If you do go down this route, then the first step is to ask your mortgage lender how much extra it will cost to extend your existing home loan, as this is often the cheapest option. If you don't wish to approach your existing lender for whatever reason, then next look into remortgaging with another lender.

You then need to shop around for the best possible deal in a choice rich secured loans market. However, this market can be dangerous, so watch out for bandits -- especially those which advertise in the back of newspapers or on daytime television!

As with all borrowing, your goal should be to minimise the amount that you repay, so pay close attention to the interest rate (which may be variable) and fees being charged. Furthermore, be sure to get written details of all charges for credit, plus the total amount repayable (TAR), which should include all interest and charges. Get it right and the TAR for a 25,000 pounds loan over five years could be as low as 29,775 pounds (7.34% APR). Get it wrong and the total could be as high as 38,884 pounds (21.27% APR). Ouch!

Finally, don't be tempted to borrow more than you need and, while taking affordability into account, aim to arrange your loan over the shortest period possible, as this will minimise your final interest bill. In addition, don't become too eager on keep on borrowing against your home, because it's your dwelling, not a cash machine!

Five Ideas for a Fabulous Backyard This Fall

Five Ideas for a Fabulous Backyard This Fall

If youre living somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, youre not exactly packing in your shorts and flip-flops just yet. Youve pretty much got all year to enjoy that pleasant weather, maybe arriving at a brisk 50 degrees come the winter months. If your backyard has left much to be desired over the years, you may want to think about a few added accents to bring your outdoor space to the next level and make it a welcoming place for guests. Here are a few ideas to give your backyard a facelift:

Add an outdoor kitchen: Depending on how much cooking and entertaining you do, this may be a bit exaggerated and it is for sure an investment. But if you enjoy hosting dinner parties and that feeling of living outside, an outdoor cooking unit is a really unique touch. If a unit is too much, settle for a nice grill and patio set. A place to cook and dine is key to making your backyard cozier and a place that you and other people will want to be. Instead of a kitchen, maybe you want to put in a fun tiki bar, a place to sip a cool cocktail after a dip in the pool.

Install a gazebo or pergola: a dining and cooking area in the backyard would be incomplete without something to encompass it. A gazebo gives the area not only some shade but a really warm and put together feeling. If not above the patio table, use it by the pool to shade a relax area with some lounge chairs. Choose from different materials like wood for a truly rustic look. The great thing about a wooden gazebo or pergola is that you can keep them simple, or jazz them up. Add vines and intertwine plants for decoration and an added design effect. For the evening time, incorporate some lights, even your run of the mill string Christmas lights will surely do the trick.

Get a hammock: a small investment, a hammock can add a great accent to the backyard and is a great place to relax with a book on a Saturday afternoon. If you want to make it even more of a cozier nook, incorporate it with the gazebo, making it your own little private relax corner.

Light the Way: Dont shirk the importance of lighting in your backyard. Whether you prefer professional lights to line your walkway or some randomly placed tiki torches, lighting adds a great and stylish touch. If youre itching with creativity, look into some DIY lighting options that can be a fun craft and will surely save you money. Paint some coffee cans and put candles inside or go for the vintage mason jar look. Usually, all it takes is something laying around the house and a few inexpensive candles.

Outdoor firepits: Firepits, outdoor fireplaces, and chimeneas are the latest trend in backyards everywhere. It seems every summer there's an invite at least once a week to sit around someone's fire pit. If you live somewhere like New England, you know that the summer evenings can get chilly, especially if you live by the water. And if you're not exactly into camping, this is something that brings the campground to your backyard. Like the kitchen, you can opt for an all out stone-encased fireplace or simply a small chiminea. The outdoor is all about "creating spaces." There's the dining space, a relaxing space, and even with the firepit you can choose to dedicate an area to sit around the fire.

Whether youre a social butterfly entertaining guests one after another or just simply love being outdoors, give your backyard that extra touch that will make it irresistibly welcoming.

FENG SHUI CLOCK RULES

FENG SHUI CLOCK RULES

Did you know the clocks ticking away in your home or business right now can be your best friend or one of your biggest foes according to Feng Shui? A clock lets you know the time and delegates how much of it you have. Knowing what time it is can make you happy or it can make you anxious. Just stop to consider not only how much energy and emotion you get but also give to this simple mechanical object! Each occasion you glance at it, its not just giving you information. Its also adding or subtracting to positive chi flow within you.

What other object in the home can get you to start running around like the rabbit in Alice In Wonderland because youre late? The clock keeps you mindful that time is the one thing in the universe you can never get back. It also helps you maintain your schedule. Because they wield so much power in our lives, their placement should never be considered a simple moving object cure in Feng Shui.

One of the prime rules in Feng Shui is if something is broken, either fix it or throw it out. Where clocks are concerned, not following this rule can really come back to bite you. If it is broken, things will literally freeze in the area its placed in represents. Time will stand still. So, if things have been stagnant in your life lately, maybe you should check to see if your clocks are running correctly.

Conversely if a clock is running fast it can cause chaos in your life. You can be too much ahead of your time. Others, your family, friends, loved ones and employer will not see you in sync and you can miss out on a lot of opportunities as a result. The heart is often referred to as ones ticker. More than once, Ive had clients report to me that when someone in their family died, one or all of their clocks stopped at the exact time of the persons death.

My father had a hobby of making wall clocks from odd things. He had one hideous creation of a timepiece surrounded by a dead fishs jaw. It literally symbolized his heart in the jaws of death. To add to the horror, he hung it in the Fame gua of his bedroom. This gua rules the heart. He would always laugh off any suggestions to take it down. After he was rushed to the emergency ward and had quadruple bi-pass surgery on his heart though, it was soon taken down.

One of the most common mistakes I see doing Feng Shui analysis is the placement of clocks on a wall. They should never be placed so high that you have to strain your neck to see them. To experience a greater sense of ease, control, and be in the flow of life, hang the clock at eye level. Otherwise, time and a balanced existence is always out of reach.

If a clock is the first thing you see upon entering a room, you will always feel short of time. Guests walking into your home will not feel welcome. They will experience restriction upon entering. It informs them they are late or early. They also will feel a sense of limitation as to how long their visit should be.

A clock in a business should never be in a prominent position. If customers see a clock, they get overly anxious, irritated and will be less likely to shop in the store again. Have you ever wondered why they dont have clocks in the casinos in Las Vegas? Its because they want the patrons to lose all sense of time. When customers feel free, they spend more money gambling.

Clocks are metal objects in Feng Shui. Therefore, they should be placed in the metal and water guas children, helpful people, and career. Because metal chops wood, hanging a clock in the family and wealth guas will cause stress in these departments of your life. Timepieces are methodical and accurate. Placing a clock in the correct gua brings structure and rhythmic harmony to the area.

Only one clock in the bedroom is allowed. It should be battery powered. If you have to have an electric clock, keep it as far away from the bed as possible. Too much electricity in the bedroom creates harmful electromagnetic fields. Eventually it will prove to be extremely detrimental to your health.

The Chinese consider it an insult for someone younger to give someone older a timepiece as a gift. It symbolizes to the elderly person their time is running out.

Empress of the North - Columbia and Snake Rivers

Empress of the North - Columbia and Snake Rivers

The Empress of the North is a sparkling vessel operated by American West Streamboat Cruises, just a little over her first birthday. She is a red and white paddlewheeler with bunting and high, flared stacks (that conveniently fold down for the low bridges) and is four decks high. The huge paddle wheel at the stern is also painted red, while the hull is gleaming black. The art in each of the corridors, neatly listed and described in an in-room guide, is nothing short of spectacular. It is themed for Russian nobility (she spends her summers in Alaska, sailing the Inside Passage). There is a collection of Faberge eggs, matrushka (nesting family) dolls, lacquer boxes and other Russian artifacts opposite the Purser's Office and gift shop. The Romanov Dining Room is similarly decorated from Imperial Russia. Her rooms are spacious and nicely decorated and most have verandahs to watch the scenery and passing ships drift by during the day. The rooms all have TV sets with DVD players, with a lending library of discs in the gift shop available at no cost and clock radios with CD players. There is also satellite TV from most of the networks, CNN and others always available as well as a camera mounted on the pilot house to share the Captain's view with the passengers.

In addition to the dining room, there is a show lounge (which is also the lecture hall during the day), the Paddlewheel Bar, serving evening drinks and appetizers before dinners (two seatings, but no assigned tables) with dancing before and after the evening meal and the Calliope Lounge which serves light breakfasts and lunches each day.

The first night, always a little awkward, features a "Welcome Aboard Dinner" and usually indicates that the standards of the kitchen are high indeed. Each night's menu had a choice of hot or cold appetizer, two soups, two salads and four entrees, one of which was vegetarian. Two or more desserts plus fruit or ice cream ended each meal. Overall, most have only wonderful experiences with all of the cuisine. Staff is young and enthusiastic, cordial and eager and very personable. Whether they did or not, they certainly seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves, from the deckhands to the cabin stewards and stewardesses to the waiters.

The first full day on the Empress provides a stop at Stevenson, Washington and a visit to the Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center, an excellent museum of the history of the Gorge, its settlement, growth and progress including a commercial salmon fishing wheel, lumbering machine and railroad memorabilia. At the fish hatchery by the Bonneville Dam, perhaps the best-known dam and power plant on the river, passengers have a view of the sturgeon pond and Herman, the sturgeon, who was more than 200 years old and still growing as sturgeons do, a living link with the area's past. Finally, passengers are able to view the spectacular Multnomah Falls, a trademark beauty of this part of the river.

The next day brings the Empress to Umatilla Landing, again in Washington, with visits to Fort Walla Walla. The Whitman Mission at Fort Walla Walla is where the Whitman family of missionaries were the first of the non-Native Americans to settle. They might have remained had not a measles epidemic - to which the natives had no immunity - cost them their lives when they were blamed for the deaths that resulted. The passengers may also enjoy a visit to the Three Rivers winery (Washington and Oregon produce wonderful wines, though not nearly as well-known as their neighbors in California) and a magnificent lunch at the beautifully restored Whitman Hotel before returning to their waiting river home.

Overnight, as the passengers are sleeping, the ship leaves the Columbia to enter the Snake River. She continues upriver and through the last remaining locks to Lewiston, Idaho, the easternmost point on the voyage. This is a much anticipated adventure as the entire ship's complement of passengers are moved to a fleet of jet boats, the only commercial craft that can navigate this rugged river and its terrain. They proceed up about thirty miles to where the Snake meets the Salmon River. This is beyond any roads and accessible only to intrepid rafters and canoeists and a few float fishermen plus hikers and backpackers. One can also find some petroglyphs made hundreds of years ago by area natives and view some mountain sheep. At that point, one meets the confluence of three states, Oregon, Washington and Idaho and it's where the jet boats reverse to a takeout point from which the passengers are returned by bus to the ship.

The next day the river tour stops near Klickitat, Washington, to make a trip to the Maryhill Museum, the creation of an eccentric millionaire which houses an impressive array of art. It has the largest collection of Rodin work on the West Coast, native art, beautiful chess sets of exquisite artistry, a sculpture and a floral garden overlooking the river below. This is where the Empress of the North closes in on the final stop of the voyage. It was the destination and goal of Lewis and Clark at Astoria, Oregon, at the mouth of the Columbia River basin and adjoining the Pacific Ocean.

Here the steamboat overnights and spends a second day. Buses take the passengers into the beautiful town of Astoria, Oregon. The town is full of wonderful restaurants and shops and it has the Astoria Monument. The monument is a column full of art and chronicles of the town's history. It also features a spiraling stairs with a climb of one hundred sixty-two steps and a viewing platform with three hundred sixty degrees of vista of Washington State and the ocean. Cape Disappointment is where the Lewis and Clark Expedition finally found their goal of the Pacific Ocean, but spent three weeks here in continuous rain. Fort Clatsop, on the Oregon side, is where they built a shelter and prepared to leave for the east and their homes. The tour buses provided by American West stop at some excellent National Park Service centers in the immediate area, each dedicated to explaining still more of the incredible journey made by Lewis and Clark and their Corps of Discovery two hundred years before. It was an amazing journey in which their estimate of distance was only twenty-six miles off, without any instruments of measurement. The nation is indebted to these men for exploring and mapping the entire passage, together with the flora and fauna found along the way.

The buses return the passengers to the Empress and it sails back to the starting point to disembark the passengers.

Dont Rush While Installing Ceramic Wall Tile In Miami

Dont Rush While

Its not that tough to personalize and install ceramic wall tile Miami in your bathroom. A bit of dedication and patience will go a long way while installing the ceramic tile in bathroom that youve always wanted to have.

Before you commence the installation of Buschinelli Tile Miami, get your tiling tools together. You will require the following tools for the project. A tile cutter, tape measure and a pair of pliers and tile nibblers, sand paper, a rubber grout and a trowel is required. To install ceramic tiles in the best way possible, you will also require a strong material such as tiling thinset mortar, or any of a wide range of tile adhesives. You will also require tiling grout for filling the gaps between your tiles. Be sure to match your setting material color with the grout.

Sponges, rags and bucket will also be required for cleaning the excess grout from the tiles and other debris, after youre done. And dont start to install Travertino Porcelain Tile without these requirements. You will also require a pair of safety glasses, long sleeved work clothes, and heavy leather gloves. Are you ready to start the work of your ceramic bathroom wall? Follow the tiling instructions below and start working on your ceramic tiled bathroom.

You can start by getting the center of your wall. Utilize the level of a carpenter, or long plumb pieces to mark intersecting horizontal and vertical lines. These will be your reference lines for your tiling project. The place where both lines intersect is the starting point for your very first row of ceramic tiles. From that point, you might then be able to working your way to both ends of your bathroom wall. Regular checks is necessary while installing ceramic wall tile Miami, so that your tiling work is consistent and can be placed in a slanting direction.

There are two types of bathroom walls you might be working on. One is the common concrete wall, and the other is a special type known as a green drywall. A green drywall is designed for utilization in bathrooms and showers as it is designed to resist intrusion of moisture. Make sure that you clean the walls of debris and dust, and also repair the cracks and fill in the holes and gaps. Scarify or roughen up the wall so that your tiling mortar has some grip for bonding. Thus, when you start installing the Buschinelli Tile Miami and you wont have an issue with your bonding material or tiling mortar.

You might now start the installation of Travertino Porcelain Tile once the walls are laid out. Start from the intersection point. Apply a coating of the tiling mortar. Put your tile over it and press the tile down firmly in position.

A cement porcelain tile is a better product for LEED and green building projects. It is 30 per cent stronger and is durable and denser than ceramic tile. It adds value and beauty to a home, regardless it is installed on counters or flooring and back splashes in the bathrooms, kitchen and utility.

Does Santa Really Exist

Does Santa Really Exist

?

There reaches a time in a child's life where the existence of Santa Clause needs to be proved, like alien life forms and the tooth fairy. Some parents eventually hold up their hands and say "Ok kiddo, Santa doesn't exist we've been lying to you for 8 years! Ha, ha! Sike!" Others will do anything to save their youngsters imaginative minds and do anything in their power to help their children collect evidence of Santa's chimney break in.
http://www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk/christmas-gifts/unusual-christmas-presents-ideas.asp

The decorated tree is surrounded by family Christmas gifts in budget store wrapping papers with various degrees of wrapping skill. A small coffee table is situated by the chimney breast, laden with a mince pie and brandy for Santa and of course a carrot for Rudolph. This set up was fine for most kids. They would hop down the stairs at 3am, too excited to sleep, see that a bite had been taken from the carrot, the brandy had been drunk and there were but a few crumbs on the mince pie plate. Santa had been, there was the proof, let's sit down and play Bamboozle on Teletext whilst waiting for kids TV to come on. Job done. Not for me. I needed hard evidence.

Whilst rummaging through my stocking fillers one Christmas Day I suddenly had a notion. What if mum and dad had eaten the mince pie and drunk the brandy? That still didn't explain the carrot, but the seed was now planted in my brain. Was Santa a sham? I queried my parents the following year and we dusted the fireplace with flour like I had seen on Inspector Gadget. A fool-proof plan to capture the very footprints of the big man himself.

It worked! There on Christmas morn was indeed the boot prints of Santa. My little mind was saved from any suspicious activity from my parents and I happily opened my Christmas presents and played with my A la Carte Kitchen with gusto. But what about the kids of today? Children of the millennium seem to be less taken in by stories of tooth fairies, Father Christmas and the Sandman. Have they lost the imaginative part of the brain that the 80's child revelled in? Sifted flour and mince pies are now no longer enough for today's kids, they need spy gadgets and booby traps. Thanks to watching Most Haunted and CSI Miami with mum and dad, a bite out of a carrot doesn't prove anything. They need DNA samples, ultra violet light scans and night vision footage. Christmas Coke Cola ads were enough proof at one stage, now we need to check the chimney for beard hair, red fibres and skin deposits.

So do we fuel this new age child with Christmas gifts such as Mini Spy Cameras and Digital Voice Recording Spy Pens to prove Santa's existence, or should we just tell them straight? How do you tell a child you have been lying to them for years? Do we carry on pretending that the guy who smells of Febreeze and wee in the shopping centre grotto really is Father Christmas? Yes, because Christmas is about gifts, eating, the Queens speech, annual trips to see family members you don't like and lying to your children about Santa to keep them happy.
http://www.find-me-a-gift.co.uk/seasonal-gift/christmas-stocking.html

Let them play detective, knock down their theories with magic and mystery. No evidence? Then you cannot be proven guilty either way. Carry on with the Christmas stocking fillers, carrots, pies and brandymaybe hold up on the flour and let Santa always remain one of life's great mysteries like the Bermuda Triangle and Katie Price's dress sense.

Do You Really Need New Labor Law Posters

Do You Really Need New Labor Law Posters

If you run a business and have employees, there are a slew of federal and state labor law notices you're required to post where employees can see them each day. These are often called labor law posters, or compliance posters. They include things like minimum wage laws, the federal USERRA, non-discrimination notices, and more.

Keeping up with everything that ought to be posted and making sure that the most current notices are posted in the workplace can be a real chore for big and small businesses alike. What's more, posting a collection of paper notices can make your office look messy.

To solve the problem, a number of companies sell labor law posters that combine all the state and federal regulations on one or two posters.

The posters, in general, are a good thing. They tidy up offices and help businesses stay in compliance with labor laws.

But unfortunately, some of the companies that market labor law posters by mail use hard-sell marketing tactics to get you to replace your labor law posters before you really need to. In fact, some of the marketing materials that get sent in mail seem somewhat misleading and deceptive.

One ploy that's been used in various parts of the country is a mailing that has the word FINAL NOTICE in all capital letters on the top of the page of an official-looking document. Below the "Final Notice" headline was text stating that the employer must comply with the new labor posting requirements and that failure to do so could lead to government fines of up to $17,000 and other possible dire consequences.

Other tactics include mail-merging the name of the recipient company into the letter and using text in the letter such as a Notice Number, Reference Number, and a Reply By date designed to make recipients think the mail is somehow an official warning.

If your business gets a notice like that, take the time to look at who it really comes from. If you see the words poster service, or compliance service, or if you see an out-of-state address, you can be sure the official-looking "Notice" is just a sales letter. Another dead giveaway: the letter will tell you how to order labor law posters from a private company.

If you're unsure when labor law notices you need to post were last changed, check with the US Department of Labor and your state labor department to find out if there have been any changes in required postings. Remember, too, that no matter what the labor law poster companies tell you, you don't need to buy a new poster just because it's a new year. You only need to replace your posters when the state or federal laws listed on them change. For a list of the latest changes in state and federal labor law posters see http://www.businessknowhow.net/posters/updates.asp

Do You Plan to Design a New Bathroom

Do You Plan to Design a New Bathroom

I adore my bathroom. I look forward to the solace and peace I feel every time I spend time in that part of my home. I know many people can relate to my perspective about the bathroom. Taking a shower in the bathroom rejuvenates you at any time of the day. Many bathrooms are designed explicitly with warm colors that help you relax while soaking up the warm, soothing water after a long day at work.

It is common to feel the need to remodel your bathroom after a while; this decision might be based on changing preferences or a picture you saw. Redesigning the bathroom is an exciting change anyone will look forward to experiencing. Some of the factors to be considered during this project will be the space you have to work with, the users and your design.

 Creating a unique bathroom layout

Your choices for a bathroom layout will be made from the three general plans for wet wall layouts. This arrangement includes marking out the part of your bathroom where the plumbing fittings will be run through to supply water to the toilet, shower, basin, etc. The choices for wet wall layout are one, two or three layout patterns for the wet wall.

The layout of a one wet wall system will have the toilet, sink and shower plumbing run along the same side in your bathroom wall, it is a simple plumbing system which is also affordable. However, your bathroom suite choices will be limited to this plumbing system.

You will be able to install a variety of bathroom suite models with the two wet wall system. In this case, the plumbing for the shower is fitted on one side your bathroom, and the layout for the toilet, basin, etc. are on another side of the bathroom wall.

You will have the freedom of flexibility in making remodeling decisions with the three wet wall layout here the plumbing is run on any of the three walls in your bathroom. It is quite expensive, but you will have more remodeling options to achieve the best bathroom design.

Choosing the best lighting for your bathroom

The considerations for a good lighting pattern will include the position of your sink, toilet, and shower area. Your goal is to create a spectacular ambiance while ensuring that essential parts of your bathroom are well lit. Most modern bathroom designs have the lights set above at strategic positions.

Bathroom lighting options are quite vast; you can get more tips on our Bathroom lighting buyers guide.

 Remodeling Your Bathroom

The common experience many homeowners have is managing the space effectively while remodeling the bathroom. It should be a simple modern design with a walk in shower.

In the UK, the space constraint has compelled many homeowners to install a simple walk-in shower in their bathrooms, if you are lucky, you can find a decent tub, especially if you know you will be soaking in it often.

Depending on your budget, you could also have a quadrant shower enclosure installed. This way, your floors will be protected from spills, and these enclosures look very appealing in different designs. If you are not sure of what will fit in your bathroom, a professional assessment by an architect will help you make the best decisions.

Alternative wall finishing

We are so used to tiles on bathroom walls, but if you need something different and durable, you should consider using bathroom wall panels. They come in various designs and colors; you will also get the shower boards and shower wall panels for your bathroom. They are non-porous, easy to maintain, adequate for dry and wet areas and hygienic. Our bathroom wall boards are tongue and groove which makes installation an easy process. Bathroom wall boards are an excellent alternative to tiles, they can be used in every part of your bathroom, and the easy maintenance makes them a favorite option to give your bathrooms a new and unique look.

Flooring

The floor of your bathroom must be slip-proof for the safety of every user. Even on a tight budget, flooring options such as vinyl and laminate flooring materials will give you the perfect finishing without compromising your desired style.

Tiles are commonly used for bathroom floor finishing because they are durable even when exposed to moisture and steam from hot water.

For the person who is busy, a convection microwave has some advantages over conventional electric or gas ovens. A convection microwave speeds up the cooking process yet does not change the desire results. Using a convection microwave allows one to continue to prepare healthy, home-cooked meals even when time is short. Because you can use it to bake and broil foods, it gives you many more cooking options than a regular microwave.

When shopping for a convection microwave, you may want to be aware of the many features that are available. You will be able to find models that are fairly simple and models that have every feature imaginable. It can be fun to see what is out there, but it is a good idea to begin with the type you require. There are basically two types of convection microwave ovens, the countertop model and the over-the-range style. Your first decision is where you will put your new convection microwave.

Your next decision will be the actual size of the convection microwave. Most will range in size from 0.9 cu. ft. to 1.8 cu. ft. and there will be outer dimensions in addition to these volume dimensions. Your size decision will be based on where in the kitchen you will be placing it and what you will be cooking in it. Power wattages range from about 500 watts to 1300 watts, so choose the convection microwave that has the power you need for the foods you plan to cook. It takes longer to cook foods with fewer watts. Color is another choice you must make, but if all of the appliances in your kitchen are one color, you will find it easy to match the color of your convection microwave; generally, black, white, and stainless steel are always available.

With those basic decisions out of the way, you have a plethora of features left to look at when shopping for a convection microwave. You can choose interactive digital displays and lighted interiors. You can choose a variety of types of temperature controls. You can choose convection microwave ovens with many automatic settings. Many come with a low rack for roasting, baking and broiling, and others come with a high rack so that you can bake on two levels. You can choose a porcelain enamel turntable to help with the even heating that the convection microwave provides. Over the range convection microwave models may offer different methods of venting. Some are very programmable to help compute baking times and temperatures for different foods. Others even have a custom help key that will guide you to the answer to your cooking questions.

As you can see, there are many features and options that are available. These will also contribute to the price of the convection microwave. It used to be that a convection microwave was considered a high-end kind of appliance, but no more. With the popularity of the convection microwave on the rise, and the constant improvements in technology, prices are very comparable to other microwave ovens. If you are in the market, then a convection microwave can make good sense for a busy family.

Compost Food Waste For A Healthy Environment

Compost Food Waste For A Healthy Environment

Food is the basic necessity of any living organism. But we also often come across food that are wasted on everyday basis. The best way to use the waste food somehow is by composting it. In fact, composting food waste has many advantages. If you are fond of planting, then you can make it healthier by composting food. The best thing is that you do not even have to exert a lot of effort to do that.

Before we dig into the discussion of the ways to recycle waste food, a better idea is to find out the reason why we may want to do this. You might have this question in mind that if the food waste is biodegradable, then why there is any issue with simply putting the waste food in the garbage bin and letting it to get decomposed at the landfill.

If you are familiar with the techniques of basic home composting, then you also must be knowing that coffee grounds, fruits, egg shells, grains, vegetables, leaves and grass clippings come under the compostable section. However, the food items that you must avoid putting in the composting bins are dairy, bones, meat, and fats. In fact, no matter those are school food waste items or commercial food waste items, waste food can be recycled. But before you proceed further, you must know what is the necessity of recycling waste food.

Composting is also called as a natural way to recycle. It can also be called as a biological procedure of disintegrating the organic waste like the manure, kitchen waste, grass trimmings, worms, leaves, newspaper, coffee grounds, and many more. These are broken up into the humus-like substance with the help of numerous micro-organisms like fungi, bacteria, actinomycetes, all in the presence of oxygen.

Composting can be described as a way of nature to recycle each of the materials that are biodegradable. We will find it in our daily life, but to make the process shorter. But we need to make efforts to ensure that it comes up with significant results. The best thing about it is that it can help the entire society to experience a healthy living.

It has been seen that the composting of food waste is much more as compared to composting any other kind of organic matter. It needs the apt ingredients to be mixed so as to come up with healthy soil which is appropriate for planting.

However, while continuing with the process, we also need to keep the fact in mind that apart from food, the process also involves Nitrogen, Oxygen, Hydrogen, and Carbon. For a better outcome, it needs to be balanced.

If you eat animal meat, and look for composting it, then you must be aware of the fact that those meat are harder when it is about composting. If the animals are non-vegetarian, then the meat will be even more harder. Therefore, the period it takes to decompose it is much more than that of the vegetable trimmings. The other thing about decomposing meat and even dairy products is that they produce foul smell, thus, need to be buried deeper. It will also help you to maintain a good relation with your neighbors and also not bother anybody who passes by.

Therefore, if you want to opt for such process of composting, then get in touch with a reliable provider. There are many companies these days that offer such services. All that you need to do is to find out the company that can help you to get so.

So, if you think your daily food is getting wasted, do not just throw it anywhere, and compost it for a better purpose.

Common Cleaning Products Are a Ticking Time Bomb!

Common Cleaning Products Are a Ticking Time Bomb!

Image source: https://d2l.deakin.edu.au/d2l/common/viewFile.d2lfile/Database/MTk1ODc1NA/Inforgraphics_Obesity_A_Ticking_Time_Bomb-795x1024.png?ou=6605&contextId=100978,101068,98386

If your home or office is typical, it already has dozens of cleaning and personal care products that contain harmful chemicals. Recent studies have revealed that most households/offices contain over 63 hazardous products that together contain hundreds of chemicals. These chemicals have the potential to greatly harm or even kill your children, your pets and you, should they accidentally not be used with the utmost caution.

Could these tragedies happen in your home or office? When little Jennifer Smith of Salt Lake City, UT was but a year old she crawled over to the dishwasher while her mother was unloading the dishes. She put her small finger in the detergent dispensing cup and ate a finger full of wet but un-dissolved commercial dish detergent. In minutes her face was red and blistered, the inside of her mouth and tongue were burned white. Luckily she was rushed to a nearby hospital emergency room for quick medical attention. She recovered in a few days.

Another documented case was a 20 month old boy who had to be fed through tubes for five months and suffered through many operations. Again, the culprit was dishwasher detergent.

This is only two of thousands of cases reflecting children ingesting and being exposed to, what most consider common household products, terrible life threatening consequences.

It is estimated that the U.S. Poison Control Center has nearly 1.5 million reported cases of accidental ingestion of poisons every year. Sadly most of these cases were under 12 years of age.

Have you ever wondered what the strong odor in the cleaners' isle of your supermarket is?

Ingestion is only one of three major ways that these products enter the body. Inhalation is even for more dangerous because when breathed in these harmful chemicals go directly into the blood stream and can quickly affect the lungs, heart, brain liver and kidneys.

By the way, that strong smell in your supermarket cleaner isle is caused by what industry experts describe as "out gassing". Out gassing are the vapors escaping from the "sealed" containers on the supermarkets shelves. Which obviously are extremely harmful to your health!

Have you ever been literally driven out of your bathroom shower while using one of the most popular tile cleaners? These types of cleaners must contain strong chemicals in order to do the job. The job may get done but you are at risk from the strong vapors that are generated. By the time you have exited the bathroom the chemical vapors have entered your blood stream and are wrecking havoc with your health. Where are your rubber gloves?

Do you know that one square centimeter of skin (the size of a dime) contains 3 million cells and 4 yards of nerves? How do you think nicotine and hormone replacement patches work? Do the chemicals somehow enter the body from the patch through the skin to do their work? Of course they do.

This same absorption occurs every time a cleaning product touches your skin. By the way, if your baby happens to crawl across your nicely scrubbed kitchen floor, even several days after, the skin will pick up and absorb whatever harmful chemicals happen to be in the cleaner.

Consumer Beware! Why isn't the consumer informed and protected from the potentially dangerous chemicals contained in cleaning and personal care products? * The government has very limited power to regulate and require proper testing. * Products that kill 50% of lab animals can still get designated as "non-toxic". * Of 17,000 household chemicals only about 5,100, or approximately 30%, have been adequately tested and less than 10% have been tested on the nervous system. * No law requires manufactures to list the exact ingredients on the package label. All Natural Cleaners!

Just imagine your peace of mind if you never had to be concerned again about your family suffering from the misuse of harmful cleaning chemicals. Although our ancient forebears quickly discovered how to start fires as necessary, fire isnt content with just allowing itself to be turned on and off as humans require it. Forces of nature in fact make one realise that ultimately, despite how far humans have come in terms of adaptability, sophistication and knowledge, we are still very much at the mercy of Mother Nature.

Despite this, far too many people are way too complacent about fire and fire safety in general. For instance, did you know the majority of fires are entirely preventable and that around three quarters of them happen in the home? House fires can be caused by anything from faulty kitchen equipment, faulty electrical wiring or just a carelessly placed or discarded cigarette.

Driving under the influence of alcohol is an accepted NO GO but cooking under the influence can also be just as detrimental to your health. Alcohol impairs judgement and slows reaction time and people have accidentally started fires because theyve been drunk when cooking. Often its simply because faulty smoke detectors havent warned them of danger in time. They leave something unattended on the stove or accidentally place something flammable too close to the heat source and dont notice until its too late.

Help Save Lives By Keeping Your Fire Officer Certification Current

As a Florida Fire Officer I and paramedic Im often frustrated by the cavalier attitude many people have to basic home safety in general and in particular around potential fire issues. Simple things like making sure your smoke detectors are maintained and in good working order will help ensure you and your family have enough warning to get out in time should your house catch fire. Getting your electrical cabling periodically checked by a licensed electrician will reduce the chances of fire caused by faulty wiring. Its also not a bad idea to consider getting a trained safety professional to perform an audit on your home either.

Become A Fire Service Instructor And Help Educate Our Public

Structural fires pose a huge threat to people and our Fire Officers and Fire Inspectors are trained in private fire protection systems, fire prevention practices and systems, codes and standards and in safe building construction related to the fire service.
